from an ideato reality
con bush safaris began as an idea — a small idea coupled with a big dream, alive in the mind of a young boy. our founder and chief executive officer, franael d.o. kaaya ("franco"), carried that dream for more than two decades: to establish and run a tourism and hospitality company that would become the people's choice.
born into an ordinary farming and pastoralist family, franco's path was not an easy one. it ran from secondary school student, to a teachers' refresher course, to a secondary school teacher, and on to a graduate in accounting and finance — and, in time, from a single man to a married one. through every season of ups and downs, failures and lessons, blessings upon blessings, the idea kept burning within him, re-fired afresh whenever he came across anything to do with tourism and travel.
nearly twenty years down the line, god blessed the family with a bouncing baby boy — their third child — whom they named conrad, meaning "brave counsel" or "bold advisor." conrad grew up with a rare and unique spirit: a natural companion to wildlife. while other children were drawn to cartoons, conrad was drawn to the wild.
his presence rekindled the old dream. his love of wildlife revitalised an idea almost twenty-five years older than he was — making it as fresh and as compelling as water to a thirsty man. we knew conrad was the right person for this dream. not for reasons of business, but because of his heart: he would never treat it as a mere company, but as an adventure and a living experience to share with others. and so we began preparing to make the idea a reality — for conrad.
but god's plans are not our own. at just four years of age, conrad was called to heaven — leaving us with a sacred duty to complete the dream in his memory.
and so con bush safaris — conrad bush safaris limited — was born, named after conrad franael d.o. kaaya. his story reminds us that it is not the number of years lived, but the impact left behind, that truly matters. through con bush safaris, conrad's impact lives on — driven always by love, nature, and legacy.
