the honeymoonthat ruins all other honeymoons

a tanzania honeymoon isn't a beach holiday with extra romance — it's a wholly different kind of trip. the romance unfolds against the wildness of africa: sundowners on a kopje above the serengeti, dinner around a private fire with no one else in earshot, breakfast brought to your tent at first light by a guide who already knows where the leopards are. the bush has a way of turning a couple toward each other — no wi-fi to distract you, no schedule to break the spell, no city to cross. just the two of you, the land, and the animals.

we've designed many honeymoon safaris in our first two years, and the shape is consistent: 5–7 nights of luxury bush, then 3–4 on the indian ocean. the bush comes first (the more energetic half), the beach last (for winding down). within that frame, every honeymoon is bespoke — we ask about your love story, your travel style, your dietary needs, any surprises you'd like us to arrange, and we shape every detail around the answers.

the luxury tier matters more for honeymoons than for ordinary safaris, and privacy is the heart of it. small camps (ten tents or fewer), suite-level rooms with outdoor showers and private decks, plated dining, and the ability to lay on a private bush dinner, sundowner or breakfast. our favourite honeymoon camps share these qualities — quiet, beautifully designed, and run by people who understand what newlyweds are after.

what makes thisexperience itself

01

treehouse suitestarangire & ruaha

A handful of camps have private treehouse suites — elevated, with outdoor showers, day beds, sometimes plunge pools. Tarangire Treetops, Chem Chem and Sayari are favourites for honeymooners.
02

private bush dinnerson request

A table for two set under a baobab. Lanterns, white linen, a butler at distance. We have done this for hundreds of couples — it never gets less magical. Arranged with 24 hours notice at most camps.
03

hot air balloon safarisadd-on

A pre-dawn balloon flight over the Serengeti, landing for champagne breakfast in the bush. The signature honeymoon experience — and the most-photographed. About $600 per person.
04

sundowner kopjesserengeti

Drive to a Serengeti kopje at sunset, chilled wine and canapés set out by your guide, the plains stretching to the horizon. Often more memorable than any restaurant meal.
05

beach decompressionzanzibar finale

Three or four nights of Indian Ocean beach after the bush is the perfect rhythm. Adults-only camps (Tulia, Konokono, Zuri) work brilliantly for honeymoons.
Best time

june–october (peak season) is the most popular window for honeymoons, and also the priciest. january–february is a lovely, quieter alternative — calving season, gentler prices, and just as good weather. avoid april–may (the long rains).

common questions

things travellersoften ask

For peak-season (Jun-Oct) honeymoons, book 10-12 months in advance — the best luxury camps fill very early. Off-peak honeymoons (Jan-Feb, Nov) can usually be booked 4-6 months out. The most exclusive properties (Singita, Sanctuary Olonana, &Beyond Sayari) sometimes book 18+ months ahead.
Yes — symbolic ceremonies are common at lodges (no legal weight, but beautiful experiences). Legal ceremonies are possible but require advance paperwork. Many couples have the legal ceremony at home and a symbolic blessing in the bush. We can coordinate either.
Luxury camps are designed for privacy. Suites have private decks, outdoor showers, and are spaced 30+ metres apart. Walking paths are screened. You will see other guests at meals (or dine privately if preferred), but never in your personal space.
For honeymoons, almost always yes — it is the signature aerial perspective on the Serengeti, and the champagne breakfast on landing is unforgettable. Cost is roughly $600 per person for 1 hour aloft. Book on arrival or in advance during peak season.
Bush first, almost always. The bush is more physical (early starts, longer days, dust), and you want to be fresh for it. Beach decompression at the end is the perfect rhythm.
