the luxury experience

the finest campsin the wildest places

a luxury safari is not a classic safari with a bigger tent. the entire rhythm is different. you wake before dawn to golden-hour light over the plains. your guide has positioned the vehicle at the waterhole before the herds arrive. breakfast is laid out under a fever tree. the camp manager already knows you prefer your coffee strong.

the difference between midrange and luxury is not just the thread count — it is the level of personal attention, the quality of the camps, the food, the depth of guiding, and the intimacy of a place that knows your name after one night. we work with the camps we believe are genuinely exceptional: singita, &beyond, sanctuary, asilia, and a handful of owner-run properties that don't feature in travel magazines but should.

we design luxury itineraries that move slowly. three nights minimum in any park. longer stays where the wildlife rewards patience. private guides, private vehicles, and the option to fly between parks by charter plane. nothing is fixed until it fits you perfectly.

Best time

june–october is peak season for luxury safaris — dry conditions, concentrated wildlife, and the most dramatic light. book 12+ months in advance as the finest camps fill early. january–february is our favourite quieter window — calving season in the southern serengeti, lower occupancy, and still outstanding guiding. november is a beautiful shoulder option with fresher landscapes and good availability.

An honest note

luxury in the bush is genuinely different from luxury in a hotel. it is quieter, more personal, and more surprising. the animals don't come on schedule, and neither does the magic. but when it arrives — a leopard at dusk, a lion kill at dawn, an elephant walking through camp — nothing compares. we believe this is the best way to experience east africa.

common questions

things travellersoften ask

What defines a luxury camp?

For us: no more than 16 tents, outstanding food, exceptional guiding, and a management team that is present and attentive. Private plunge pools, outdoor showers, and expansive deck views are standard at the top tier. We visit every camp we use.

How far in advance should we book?

For peak-season (June-October) luxury safaris, 12-18 months is ideal. The very best camps — Singita Sasakwa, &Beyond Ngorongoro, Sanctuary Olonana — can sell out earlier than that. Off-peak trips (January-February, November) have more flexibility at 4-6 months.

Is flying between parks worth it?

Almost always yes, for a luxury safari. It preserves energy for game drives, adds spectacular aerial views, and lets you move between parks in an hour rather than six. Charter costs (roughly $300-600 per flight per person) are well worth it on a premium trip.

What about private concessions?

Private conservancies adjoining national parks (like the Grumeti Game Reserve in the Serengeti) allow night drives, walking safaris, and off-road driving that are prohibited in parks. We use these for luxury clients who want the maximum wildlife experience.

Can we add Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar?

Yes. A luxury safari combines beautifully with either. Zanzibar adds a beach finale. Kilimanjaro can precede a safari (arrive, trek, recover on safari). We design all-Tanzania journeys that cover mountains, bush, and coast in a single itinerary.
